Atlantis Studios Discontinues Creator-Owned
Publications
February 1, 2007
James Watson, President and CEO of Atlantis Studios, announced today
that it would immediately discontinue the review and publication of
all creator-owned work in order to focus resources on its core
business of high-quality custom comics and sequential art for
science fiction, fantasy, and action-adventure licensed properties.
“We are primarily a work-for-hire studio, not a publisher,” Watson
explained, “Our first priority is to ensure that client projects are
completed on time at the highest quality possible. We’ve found that
we can’t devote the marketing and promotion resources needed to
ensure creator-owned titles succeed in a very competitive market,
while also accomplishing our primary mission.”
The only title immediately affected will be Dan Hogan’s Tinn Man, a
creator-owned title that has been published under the Atlantis
Studios banner since summer of 2006. This title has been distributed
through Diamond Comics and sold online. Previously-published
creator-owned titles Thunderbird and Talisman were discontinued in
2006.
Atlantis Studios will continue to offer promotional services such as
website design and promotional art packages to small press
publishers. Atlantis-owned comics, such as the highly-successful
Paula Peril series will continue to be published, as will the
Librarian series published under license agreement with Dean
Devlin’s Electric Entertainment.
